The College of Arts & Letters was pleased to host MacArthur Genius, Guggenheim Fellow, and acclaimed author Claudia Rankine as a part of the College’s Signature Lecture Series. A new musical opening in Houston, Texas, at Stages Repertory Theatre features scenic design by Michigan State University Professor of Scene Design Kirk Domer and Department of Theatre student Michael Gault (BFA Theatre Design ’20). Whirlwind. Curveball. Whiplash. Unexpected. Unprecedented. These were just a few of the words swirling around as we transitioned to remote instruction at the Community Language School (CLS) at Michigan State University last spring. We were catapulted into the unknown of virtual planning, learning and teaching, forcing us to adapt our programs to offer fully remote language classes for families, kids, pre-teens, teens and adults in just a few short weeks and throughout the summer.
Get Out the Vote: Empowering the Women’s Vote highlights how graphic design has been implemented as a powerful tool in politics with poster designs running parallel to activism and social change for over 100 years. Professor Lyn Goeringer’s installation, Witnesses, is featured in the Science Gallery Detroit’s current exhibit, Future Present: Design in a Time of Urgency, which runs through December 11, 2020, and is open to the public. A composer and intermedia artist who works with video, sound, and light, Goeringer is an Assistant Professor of Composition in the College of Music and of Film Studies in the Department of English.
