The creative research of five Master of Fine Arts degree candidates will be on display March 17-April 1 at MSU’s Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum as part of the 2017 Department of Art, Art History, and Design MFA Thesis Exhibition.

The MFA Exhibition will feature the work of Ladan Bahmani, Kristen Franyutti, Elyse Gambino, Jordan Smith, and Chelsea Young, which stands as evidence of their achievements and promise.

For these emerging professional artists, the exhibition marks the culmination of a three-year degree program that emphasizes extensive creative exploration. The exhibit also provides an opportunity for the students to share their artistic accomplishments with the public.

As part of the exhibition, the MFA candidates will give gallery talks, which will take place on Thursday, March 30, at 6 p.m. at the Broad Art Museum.

The closing event, scheduled for Saturday, April 1, will include an awards program, where the winner of the Selma and Stanley Hollander Fellowship for Graduate Study will be announced. Guest juror Janet Dees, Curator at the Mary & Leigh Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University, also will present her choice for the annual John and Susan Berding Family Foundation endowed Master of Fine Arts Prize.

The MFA Thesis Exhibition is organized by MSU’s Department of Art, Art History, and Design and the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at MSU with support provided by the Graduate School at MSU and the John and Susan Berding Family Endowment.
