The College of Arts & Letters has launched its strategic planning initiative which will shape the mission, methods, and measures through which CAL will develop its programs and community over the next three to five years.

Through a strength-based, participatory approach  known as Appreciative Inquiry and the guidance of Spartina Consuling, the College will seek broad community input and participation in shaping its vision for the future.

Appreciative Inquiry is based on two simple concepts:

What we look for, we find; what we pay attention to grows.

The more constructive and solution-seeking the conversations are, the more beneficial and productive the outcomes and actions will be.

People commit to what they help to create.

The more involved the College Community is in planning for and creating the strategic vision, the more committed they will be in seeing it through to success.

During four focus group sessions in February 2022, Appreciative Inquiry based questions used used to harness the contributions, wisdom, and creativity of the CAL community using a process known as a “SOAR” analysis to conduct an environmental scan of CAL. These questions were aimed at identifying the College’s Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results, and the findings will be a major input into the Summit discussions.
