Ann Folino White received the Quality in Undergraduate Teaching Award from the Mid-Michigan Spartans at the MSU alumni group’s 2016 Crystal Ball and Golden Gala on September 30.
Folino White is Associate Chairperson, Associate Professor of Theatre Studies and Directing, andHead of Theatre Studies in the MSU Department of Theatre.
“I take great pride in teaching students and ensuring or improving systems of support for student success in and out of the classroom. It is joyful work,” Folino said. “Recognition for this from alumni, who have learned from the outstanding MSU faculty, is a true honor.”

The Mid-Michigan Spartans club sponsors up to two Quality in Undergraduate Teaching awards each year. Established in 1992, the award recognizes faculty who take pride in and are committed to quality undergraduate teaching and who demonstrate substantial continuing involvement in undergraduate education. Margo Glew of the MSU College of Education also received the award this year.
A scholar and theatre artist, Folino White received her B.A. in Theatre from Michigan State University, M.A. in Theatre from Northwestern University, and Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Theatre and Drama along with a Gender Studies Certificate from Northwestern University.
The Crystal Ball is an annual signature event for the Mid-Michigan Spartans where it raises funds for its academic endowed scholarships and honors Spartans who go above and beyond “WILL.” The 2016 event was dubbed “The Golden Gala” in recognition of the group’s 50th anniversary.
