Grace Pregent has been appointed Interim Director of The Writing Center in the College of Arts & Letters. Her appointment runs from June 1, 2020, to December 31, 2020. Trixie Smith, who currently is on sabbatical, will return to her position as The Writing Center Director in January 2021.
Pregent began serving as the Associate Director of The Writing Center in 2019, and she is Affiliate Graduate Faculty in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures. She currently serves on the board of the East Central Writing Center Association, and before joining MSU, she was the Associate Director of the Writing Center at Loyola University.
“I’m honored to be the Interim Director,” Pregent said. “I have enjoyed working with and learning from the Writing Center’s undergraduate and graduate consultants, and I’ve been incredibly impressed by them throughout the pandemic. During this time, we’re assessing and critically reimaging the methods through which we collaborate with writers across campus and within the larger community.”
Pregent received an M.A. in English from the University of Dallas, M.S. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Dayton, and Ph.D. in English from Loyola University. She has had recent work published in Evenlyn Waugh Studies and The Hardy Society Review and has forthcoming articles in The Victorians and Writing Lab Newsletter. Her research focuses on rhetorical narrative theory and writing center studies.
