Come see this year’s Theatre 2 Film project, Stay With Me, performed on stage at MSU’s Fairchild Theatre before it is turned into a feature film.
Stay With Me is an exploration of Midwestern farm life told through the lens of the Wallace family. It is an examination of the disintegration of the American dream, traditions, heritage, and a vanishing way of life. The play examines what happens when we cling too closely to the past and the emotional cost of breaking free from established conventions in order to find identity apart from family.
Theatre 2 Film is a large-scale, collaborative project between MSU’s College of Arts & Letters (CAL), College of Communication Arts and Sciences (ComArtSci), and College of Music where students take an original student play and adapt it for the screen. The full-length feature film will premiere at the 2017 Traverse City Film Festival (TCFF) scheduled for July 25 to 30 at multiple locations in Traverse City, Michigan.
This year’s Theatre 2 Film play is directed by alumnus and Executive Director of the Williamston Theatre John Lepard, B.A. Theatre 1988. Stay With Me play performances are scheduled for Feb. 17-19 and Feb. 21-26. Tickets are $17 per person, or $12 for MSU students with a student ID.

This is the third year in a row for MSU’s Theatre 2 Film project. Last year’s team produced Sorta Late abouta late-night talk show in Detroit that hires new interns who get their first taste of the chaotic and unpredictable world of the entertainment industry. And the first year the Theatre 2 Film team produced (313) Choices, a contemporary human drama of interwoven stories set in and around Detroit.
“This collaboration between CAL, ComArtSci and the College of Music is an excellent example of how shared efforts create a robust arts and culture experience for MSU students,” said Christopher P. Long, Dean of the College of Arts & Letters. “Our three colleges are committed to providing future academic programming that enriches the undergraduate learning experience and provides faculty opportunities to work together on innovative media arts projects in and outside of the classroom.”
