The 2026 Department of Art, Art History, and Design Undergraduate Exhibition at Michigan State University features the work on 64 students created in Department of Art, Art History, and Design courses during the past year. This juried exhibition runs March 26 through April 24 at (SCENE) Metrospace, 110 Charles Street, East Lansing, Michigan. Gallery hours are noon-5 p.m. Thursday-Sunday. An exhibition reception is scheduled for Friday, April 10, from 5 to 7 p.m., during which the Best of Show and Honorable Mention awards will be presented at 5:30 p.m.

This annual exhibition celebrates the work created by undergraduate students in AAHD classes. It features coursework from Apparel and Textile Design, Ceramics, Comic Art and Graphic Novels, Drawing, Electronic Art and Intermedia, Graphic Design, Photography, Painting, Printmaking, and Sculpture.
All Michigan State University undergraduate students, regardless of their major, were invited to submit up to five works created in any Apparel and Textile Design, Graphic Design, and/or Studio Art courses during the academic terms beginning in late Spring 2025 through Spring 2026. These courses are centered in a learning environment that values the development of personal vision, critical inquiry, and philosophical reflection, allowing undergraduate students across all disciplines to make intellectual and artistic discoveries.

This year’s student work was critiqued by guest juror Ekaterina Popova, a Russian-born artist whose contemporary oil paintings explore themes of home, belonging, and identity. After earning her bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Kutztown University in 2011, she has continued to develop her studio practice and share her work through exhibitions across the United States and internationally. Her work has been featured in galleries around the world including Cohle Gallery in Paris and Menorca, The Painting Center in New York, James Oliver Gallery, Paradigm Gallery, and more. Based in Philadelphia, Popova also is the founder of Create! Magazine and Art Queens and the host of the Art & Cocktails podcast. She has co-authored The Complete Smartist Guide and The Creative Business Handbook, helping artists build sustainable art careers.
Popova also will deliver a lecture on Thursday, April 9, at 6 p.m. in South Kedzie Hall, Room 107, as part of the 2025-2026 Stanley & Selma Hollander Artist, Designer, and Scholar Lecture Series.
